the contrast was eerie –
sunshine, spring flowers bloom
fluffy clouds drifting, and yet –
silence
not a birdsong nor insect chirp
no fox left its den; no mouse scurried
stillness
Aeolus held his breath
or had he also died?
a world without
empty of meaning
fear, sorrow, grief, hopeless
a world adrift
floating aimlessly to
nowhere, into oblivion
Ares, Hybris, Hades enthroned
love only an allusion
hope and beauty fade into
a mist of nothingness
all that is good, kind, and gracious
sealed in stone-cold tomb
the sky clouds over
flowers wilt, owls weep
once more in agony Rachel
shivers and sobs while
a winged serpent laughs
in utter darkness
and yet, three women
wait, watch, weep, lament and
love – their spices at the ready
they alone will embrace the darkness
clinging to the memory of love
