Windows open in the dome

Waters of chaos return to

Swamp, engulf, inundate, drown …

Remnant safe in an ark

Once more waters

Divinely divided

Above the dome

Below the earth

A new beginning

A rebirth – multiply, 

Fill, care for, steward

The dark way chosen yet again

Slavery, oppression, murder, until

A flood of justice …

Remnant safe in their 

Blood-splattered ark-houses

Now free but hemmed in – 

Enemy behind; sea, death, chaos ahead

Once more waters

Of the sea split by 

Holy breath

Miriam dances with her timbrels

Through the wilderness at last

River waters divide – Promised Land

Choosing an alternate way of

Genocide, child-sacrifice, orgies

Ignoring prophet after prophet

Century after century until

Enemies come in like a flood

All is laid waste

How can we sing the songs of Zion?

Prisoners in a foreign land

Yes, we can go home, but never to

Freedom, always under an empire’s thumb

Messiah comes – 

A new kind of kingdom

A new way of doing life

The way up is down

Last are first

Turn the other cheek

Go the second mile

Defeat hatred with love

Defeat death by dying

Not what we want

We want a warrior king

Choosing an alternate way of

Swords, guerrilla warfare, blood

Chaos – a flood of enemies 

Not one stone left on top of another

Blood flows like rivers

Exile for the few who survive

Religion climbs in bed with Empire

Millennia of violence

Wars and plagues

Nature raped, air polluted, water fouled

Racism, hatred, bigotry, othering

Lies, conspiracy theories,

Toxic theology spreads until

The King is no longer recognizable

Once more, we humans unleash chaos

Dictators, despots, corrupt liars, criminals

Take charge, democracy dies

Books are banned; teachers censored 

Families are separated

Immigrants and Muslims are demonized

Propaganda replaces journalism

Hatred is encouraged, guns in schools

White male billionaire grifters oppress

The land is flooded with evil

+

Where will be … when will be … the

Next divine deliverance when 

Floods of chaos, untruth, and violence

Are pushed back so God’s good earth 

Can bloom and city streets be filled with

Laughing children?
