Eugene Robinson is a brilliant columnist at the Washington Post. His February 18, 2025, column skillfully brought to light some of what the Trump regime is up to.
Mr. Robinson’s column inspired me to jot down a few notes using his own style.
Who cares that thousands of innocent people are being rounded up and put in concentration camps?
Who cares if children are separated from their parents?
Who cares if Palestinians from Gaza, whose families have lived there for hundreds of years, are forced out? Who cares where they go?
Who cares that billionaires are literally taking the food out of the mouths of starving children?
Who cares that all our social security data is in the hands of the richest man on the planet?
Who cares that that same man is spreading lies about payments to dead people and widespread fraud within the social network that seniors and disabled people rely on to survive? Who cares that he has no evidence? Who cares that rightwing media is amplifying falsehood?
Who cares that hundreds of nonpartisan federal employees are being randomly fired without cause under a false pretext of saving money, when, in reality, the agenda is to make the rich richer?
Who cares that immigrants are painted as criminals when in fact they are far less likely to commit crimes than are native-born Americans?
Who cares that white South Africans, who long oppressed and exploited people of color, are now categorized as victims of racism?
Who cares that every advance in civil rights is being rolled back?
Who cares that women’s rights are being gutted?
Who cares if women die because they can’t get proper healthcare?
In fact, who cares if anyone dies for lack of affordable healthcare? After all, the only people who matter are the rich.
Who cares that industry has been given the green light to destroy the earth for profit?
So what if air and water pollution kill millions? Most of them will be poor.
Who cares if the dictator of Russia gets to keep a huge portion of Ukraine after he invaded it without provocation?
Who cares if the Ukrainians don’t have a voice in a peace settlement? The dictators can handle it.
Who cares that Trump’s contempt for European democracies is forcing them to arm themselves to the teeth?
Who cares that Trump is threatening Canada and Panama?
Who cares that our closest American allies and trade partners to our north and south are being bullied?
Who cares if Trump ignores the courts?
Who cares if white Christian nationalists ban books, take over schools, and force their brand of morality on everyone?
Who cares if the opinions and sensitivities of native people are ignored?
Who cares if the regime acts unilaterally without Congress or the courts?
Who cares if scientific research is gutted?
Who cares if medical research is gutted?
Who cares if millions die because vaccines aren’t available?
Who cares that history is being whitewashed and the populace flooded with lies?
Who cares if Nazis and other white supremacists are welcomed?
Who cares that guns have flooded our country and school children are in danger of being shot?
Who cares about people of color, native people, poor people, homeless people, incarcerated people, and sick people?
Jesus cares.
Jesus cares about all of it.
Anyone claiming to follow Jesus must likewise care.
